Welcome to the Thompson's. I love the Christmas season and hope you enjoy your
virtual visit to my house.
This is the front of the tree looking in from the
living room door. The tree skirt is a piece of red flannel cut in a circle.
Not many years after Bob and I were married I came across this pattern for
cross stitching the twelve days of Christmas. Lenore did the cross stitch
and then my mom made the fabric edging and sewed them on. I used to attach
each one by Velcro to the skirt but since it lays flat and packages end up
on top of it anyway, I just lay them on there loose.
After 21 years of keeping house and having a tree I
have quite a large collection of ornaments. Over the years my tree has
become sort of a country Christmas and a symbol of things I enjoy. Some of
the ornaments are hand made by other people bought at craft shows, given to
me by friends, etc. My mom and sister have bought many of them over the
years as gifts and I have purchased the remaining on trips, etc. I collect
teddy bears, so you see lots of them here and on my other tree, below.
Others are very old, having come from my parents collection we used when we
decorated the tree.
Christmas Day Update
I took these with the digital camera. I will have
some additional ones I took with my 35mm later in the week. Mom sitting in
the living room after all the gifts have been opened and our stuff under the
tree. The dogs also got new toys to play with.
Pre-Christmas decorations.
up close to show some ornaments from the front
the side and back of the tree from the dinning
room.
. I made the little red mittens in pre-school 40 some
years ago.
The library table with several of my Santa's.
Another table with a Santa and my village across the book shelf and my doll
cabinet to give me more room to spread it out.
This
is the bear tree in the den. I started this tree several years ago of my
favorite bear ornaments to enjoy while sitting in the den. The den is too
small for the tree and we spend all our time there. The tree has now
expanded its theme to include small Border Collies, the miniature ornaments,
which I just love, and other small things that would be lost on the big
tree. I finally added lights a couple of years ago.
The mantle in the den.
The stockings are hung by the window with care knowing that Malcolm will not
get them there! As you can see, I could not hand my stocking on the mantle
this year because Malcolm would have pulled them down by standing on the
hearth. Fortunately the window looking out over the deck is boxed and I had
a place to put them.
And, finally, Mandy became very jealous when she saw
Bob wearing the antlers. Bob gave me Mandy for our third Christmas
together.
