[Last Week] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Next Week]

Rainy days and Mondays. YES readers it is raining today! A dark, dreary, cool morning greeted us out of bed this morning for the first time in months. It had started to rain last night just as we were taking the dogs out for their last time. We didn't even go back for rain jackets and hats. Just walked in the rain. How refreshing. The forecast for the week is more of the same. Other areas south and west of us have had several large, rain dumping storms on them yesterday and early this morning. Their water shortage problems are much more severe than ours. Today is the first time in months that I actually had to turn on my light to write my morning post due to the dark, cloudy conditions rather than bright sunshine streaming in.

I decided to give up on Charleston by John Jakes. It wasn't awful in the sense of the writing or the history, it was just plain boring with not a single character in the entire novel I could relate to or even like. Last week I had a discussion about this very subject with one of my readers. He and I both agree that there are far too many books out there to be read and enjoyed to struggle along with ones that are not good after the first fifty pages or chapters, whatever your personal barometer is. We sort of differ over the level of "not good" or "not very good" and the giving up part but we both operate under the same premise. Bob also will ditch a book if it turns out to be horrid.  By the way, this reader has also recommended some of his favorite titles.

Now my reader will really get a chuckle because I ditched Charleston and started reading the the fourth book in the Julie Kaewert series previously mentioned in my journal pages. My so-so reviews about the three previous books in the series actually precipitated his e-mail message to me. However, as I told him, I like the characters and the plots as well as all the information on on books published during the fifteenth century known as "incunabula".  I love the two main characters Alex Plumtree and his fiancé Sarah as well as some of the minor characters who also work for Plumtree Press.

Kaewert improved her style and movement of the story in the third book. I hope she continues to do in the fourth one. My main objection to her series is lack of deviation from the plot. Alex finds a rare book, someone tries to kill him before the content gets out to the world that will destroy British history or world politics, and someone else gets killed for knowing about the book. Poor Alex has his life threatened getting shot or stabbed more times in one novel than is humanly possible. But, like Rambo movies, this is fiction folks.

If its Monday it must be gym day, which it is. I need to run by my friend Nancy's house afterwards to pick up something from her.

Have a good week.

[Last Week] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Next Week]

The only good thing that happened yesterday was the 2.6 inches of rain that fell yesterday morning. The remainder of the day was one of those days that makes you wish you had never bothered to get that morning.

First off, when I went to leave for the gym I could not find my car keys. This is not unusual. I often temporarily misplace them by putting them somewhere and forgetting where I left them. After a frantic search for ten minutes I asked Bob to loan me his because I would late for Body Pump class. Off I went to the gym then drove over for a short visit with my friend Nancy and pick up some shirts I needed for a CBCR merchandise order.

Upon arriving back home and pulling into the driveway I noticed the front left gutter of the house had been pulled loose by the heavy rains/leaves. Bob had noticed when he had the dogs our and met me downstairs as I pulled into the garage to get a ladder and the gutter nails we use to repair that problem. After getting the gutter repaired and cleaned of leaves and debris it was back inside to eat a snack and check my mail.

After lunch I started retracing my steps from the last time I knew I had my keys which was Saturday night after a trip over to the nursing home. Bob and I looked everywhere both logical and weird, NO KEYS. I have never lost a set of keys in my life, ever. Misplaced, yes, but never lost. I took a shower and looked some more. By this time it was mid-afternoon and we had determined the keys were not going to show up.

During all this Bob was dealing with Social Services about Lenore's Medicaid eligibility on the phone and faxing stuff to her. We decided I might as well go get keys made and make an afternoon visit to Lenore. While I was at the nursing home Bob called to say he needed Lenore's checkbook which was in my pocketbook. I headed back home to take Bob the checkbook then took off to the Trooper place to get new car keys. On the way home I also stopped and had a couple of extra house keys made. I continued looking for my keys until dinner time.

After dinner Bob sat down to do something at his computer in the den and it had gone south on him. I guess he will have that story on his page this morning. By this time I was exhausted mentally from trying to visualize all my movements from Saturday night. I cleaned house on Sunday and do not recall seeing them and I did not go anywhere Sunday in the car.

This morning after doing all the things I was supposed to get done yesterday afternoon I will head over to SciWorks first making a visit at the nursing home. Bob is meeting Lenore at the orthopedic surgeon's office this afternoon. She gets x-rays and updates on how her legs are mending and what the next phase of recovery will be.

More rain is predicted for today and tonight. The rain we got yesterday was not wide spread. Some people got several inches while others got less than a half.

[Last Week] [Monday] [Tuesday] [Wednesday] [Thursday] [Friday] [Saturday] [Sunday] [Next Week]

Keys have not turned up so far. Lenore has to go back to the orthopedic surgeons in six weeks to see if her legs are continuing to heal. She is still not allowed to bear any weight on them.

It is pouring rain right now and is supposed to be continue for most of the day. Otherwise, not much on the news front for a Wednesday. I am off to gym this morning for Spinning and the grocery store.
