January 2008
The
weather has turned spring like again. High's today in the low 60's and
close to 70 tomorrow. Yuk, too warm for me in January.
I finished the Winspear last night. She tidied up some ongoing
plot lines with Maisie while she had her solving the mystery of an
artist killed when he fell from some scaffolding. At the same time
Maisie was investigating this death she stumbled upon a smuggling
operation using art work bought from France and Germany.
Today at lunch I started another Craig, Martha's Vineyard mystery,
from the library. I went to the gym from work. The knee and thigh
muscle continue to get stronger.

Not really much in the way of news. Just thought I would drop in and
say hello to everyone. I went to the gym after work plus I walked at
lunch. The knee is making good progress.
I should finish the Martha's Vineyard mystery tonight. J.W. has found
himself mixed up in real mess. The daughter of a family whose house he
watches during the off season came to the island in September with a
friend from California for a few weeks. The family asked J.W. to keep
be there if they needed any help with the house. When he gets a frantic
all from the girls after a guy breaks in the house he finds himself
investigating a possible stalker/murderer who has someone working for
him while he is in jail. Or, it could be the work of two really nasty
guys who live on the island. He and Zee now have a baby girl along with
toddler Josh. Fortunately, while all this is going on they are off
island visiting Zee's mother.

We are having the usual crazy winter weather
in the Piedmont. As I mentioned on Monday it was to be close to 70
early in the week. Today, we had clouds and some rain with temperatures
dropping during the day into the 40's. Tonight, the temperatures are to
rise with a chance or rain and thunderstorms with more warm weather
tomorrow. I always heard that called pneumonia weather when I was
growing up.
I started one of my TBR books at lunch today. It has been exactly three years since I read the first book in Sarah Stewart Taylor's
Sweeney St. George mystery series. I had picked up O' Artful Death for
Bob at the library and upon his recommendation decided to give it try.
That was January of 2005. Since then I kept trying to find the next
books in the series. I finally found the next two of three at Malice
last year. She has not published since 2006.
The second book, Mansions of the Dead, has Sweeney finding out one of
her students has been murdered. Attached to his clothing and around his
neck is what is known as mourning jewelry made popular back in the
early to middle 1880's. The prologue of the book will link
history to the modern day plot. Sweeney, a college professor,
specialized in funerary art and gravestones. Sort of a morbid topic but
Taylor makes it work.
Tomorrow night I am picking up the folks after work and going out to dinner with them.

This morning Bob and I went to Space Savers
to get some things for Bob's lab and then on to Lowe's to get some more
stuff for Bob's lab.
Otherwise, we are having sort of a lazy day. I did wash, dry, and iron
my load of work shirts and pants but otherwise can't seem to get too
excited about doing anything else. I may get inspired later today to
work some more on my office/desk. I still have stuff piled around to be
sorted and put back on the shelves on my desk.
I did have the dogs out for a little backyard playtime. The
temperatures are mild, low 50's and partly cloudy, but the wind makes
thing a little chilly feeling.

I woke up at 7:30 when Bob got up to take the
dogs out. The next time I woke up it was 8:50. Between taking the day
off yesterday and sleeping in I feel much more rested.
The weekly house cleaning chores have been completed. After lunch I
took the dogs around back for some play time. While Bob was down
working in his lab I packed away the Christmas decoration boxes in the
closet getting the finished area looking back to normal.
