Yesterday afternoon I picked up the folks and our friend Brian at their house to drive to Hickory, about an hour from here. We were meeting up with Frances and Al in downtown Hickory. As with most small towns in America, they have redone old buildings, created pedestrian areas, and brought in shops and restaurants. We hit some pretty major rain showers on the way up but by the time we got to Hickory it was just drizzling. It was not as hot up there but it was still humid.
Our main reason for going was not to shop but to eat at a very famous German restaurant about a mile from downtown on old US 70, The Old German Schnitzel Haus, Dad loves good German food. We have been to several over the years but this one is by far the best food and well worth the drive. We had a great time and will certainly make plans to go back sometime this fall.
