Since Wednesday morning when I left home for work it has been another wild roller coaster ride. I had to leave work at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon after a call from dad’s home health nurse that things were not going well with mom. Once I arrived and assessed the situation I called Frances at work to let her know we had another crises.
Mom had pretty much gone total manic that afternoon after several things set her off. I was supposed to meet Nancy and Betsy for dinner at 5:30 which I had planned to cancel. Frances insisted I go, that she things under control so off I went to TK Tripps. Instead of coming home, since it was her night to stay anyway, I ordered a takeout for her then back to the apartment. We discussed things more then I left finally getting home at 9:45.
Thursday I left for work. Frances ended up having to take Thursday off to stay with mom instead of me leaving work early again that afternoon to let her leave to go in to work late. In the meantime that morning I called our friend Marcy, who works part time as an aide to the elderly, to see if she could come over Thursday afternoon and talk with mom. I went straight to Creekside from work. Marcy and Frances were sitting down in the lobby. Mom was asleep at that point. Marcy left, Frances went to get us takeout for dinner, then she went home.
I had already planned to be off Friday to run some errands for myself and to take on some. Marcy came back Friday morning at 8:15 to stay with mom. I left to get the oil changed in my car and run to the pet store and Lowe’s Home Improvement. I finished up early enough to be able to run by here quickly to drop off my purchases and see Bob and Colin for a minute and pick up some clothes.
On the way back to Creekside I called Marcy to tell dad to be at the front door I was on the way. We drove out to a medical supply place in Clemmons that sells the electric scooters. While he test drove one the guy gave me the necessary paperwork for the doctor to fill out for dad to qualify to get one through Medicare. We then stopped for lunch before making a stop at the bank and shoe store.
Back at Creekside Marcy and I got mom ready to go see her old psychiatrist she was seeing for many years until last July. I called Thursday to see if we could get her in on Friday as an emergency. If necessary, he runs a geriatric medical center in Thomasville, we would have her admitted there. He did some medication changes after talking with her and me and back to Creekside we went. Marcy left and for the first time in almost a month mom went back down to the dinning room for dinner. A major breakthrough. She had a good night last night but this morning was not so good again.
I stayed until Frances arrived in time to eat their mid-day meal with them in the dinning room and I left to come home. Things are better than they were earlier in the week but we still have a long way to go. Frances is staying tonight. We had hoped to drop the night staying this weekend but with mom not good in the mornings we need to be there right now.
So, I am at least home the rest of today through tomorrow afternoon. Colin and Bob were glad to see me and I am glad to be home. We’ve had snow showers off and on all day with more possible this evening. Nothing is sticking with the temperatures hovering just above freezing.
