Hurricane Irene

She made landfall off the coast of NC this morning. Other than a lot of wind and humidity we are too far inland to get anything from this storm. And, as dry as it is, there is less chance of trees being blown over in the 3o mph gusts we are getting. The neighbors have a large limb down in their yard but so far I just have small branches and sticks. She has just about moved out of the NC coast. There a chance of some of the rain bands getting to us later this afternoon.

I had Colin out to play this morning before the winds started picking up. Not a good day to be outside. When I take Colin out front I stay in the middle of the yard out from beneath the two trees on either side. They both have some dead stuff up there that could come down. I was talking to my neighbor the other day about all the sticks we’ve been picking up this year. We concluded the lack of ice storms the last couple of winters has kept the dead limbs from coming down. I would rather pick them up all summer than have an ice storm.

This morning I helped Bob assemble and pack the small parts bags for the kits. I’ve got some ironing to do this afternoon and a few other around the house chores.
