Bob passed away last night around 9pm at the rehab center. I posted yesterday that he was talking better but still coughing up a lot junk. The nurse suctioned him last night and asked him if everything was okay. He nodded yes. She went back in a few minutes later and he had stopped breathing. EMS came and did all they could but he was just too weak to survive another another code. I knew in the back of my mind his lungs were not going to recover after battling those issues for 6 weeks but there was always hope until the very end.
Al came up this morning at 1am to cover the home front. I came up later this morning after meeting with the funeral home. Thee will not be a service. Frances and Al are hosting an open house for our local friends to stop by in a more relaxed atmosphere than the funeral home. I am heading back to Winston this afternoon.
Needless to say I am devastated. I lost my best friend for 34 years. Hayworth Miller will be posting his obituary sometime later today or tomorrow. RIP my love.
My words and thoughts cannot convey my greatest sincerest sympathy.
Peace be with you Barbara. Bob is in a place of comfort now, watching over you and Colin.
Barbara I am so very sorry for your loss. I read your blog every day and having been praying for Bob. May you find comfort and peace with the memories you have of Bob. God be with you…..
My deepest condolences. I had great respect for Robert ands learned so much from his writing. My husband introduced me to RBTs blog in 1998. I consideeed him essential reading and shared his page with many people over the last two decades.
The respect and admiration he held for you was palpable as he wrote about sharing domestic chores and the numerous projects you tackled over the years. Your friendship was clearly a foundation stone of your marriage.
I am terribly sorry for your loss. You, Colin, Al and Frances will remain in my prayers.
Very sorry to read this today. I’ve been reading his diary for many years and although I’m a NYC liberal, who I am sure he would have had no use for, it was interesting to hear differing views from an intelligent man.
