Wednesday

I took dad to his series of doctor appointments this morning. He has been getting B12 shots the last five weeks but today he was seeing the doctor along with the usual blood work and shot. We finished up with this appointment and were heading out to the lobby and the elevators when he caught the toe of his shoe on the linoleum. He did a swan dive face down onto the hard floor scaring the bejeesus out of me.

In two seconds there was a swarm of nurses, doctors, etc. on the scene. Once they determined nothing was broken they got him up into a wheel chair and into a nearby exam room. With his age and the cut on his face the hospital security that answers emergency calls wanted him to go to the ER to get a head CT and x-ray of where his knees where he hit to make sure he was okay.

So, instead of taking dad home and being at work by noon we headed to the ER. While they were taking him down to the ER I took his glasses up to the 6th floor to have them repaired. By the time I got to down to find him in the ER they had  him undressed, hooked up to monitors, etc. The doctor finally came in and let us know it would be awhile before he went up to x-ray.

I went out to call mom and Bob to let them know what happened. When I tried to turn my cell phone on it was dead. I called Bob to tell him what happened and my cell phone was dead and called mom. I went back to let dad know I was going to get my car and would be back in about an hour. By the time I got home Bob had activated the other cell phone he had ordered months ago but had been sitting on the kitchen table. I wolfed down a pack of crackers and headed back for the hospital. He had been to x-ray while I was gone. The doctor came in around 2 to let us know he had two broken ribs on the right and one on the left but everything else looked fine. We finally left there at 3:30. I took him home, went to the drugstore for some prescriptions, and back to the house.

From there I left to meet Nancy and Betsy for an already planned dinner at Bonefish Grill. Very good food. It was nice to sit and chat over a glass of wine and relax. It has been a hectic month between mom and dad. Hopefully we are over the hump and on the way to things going more smoothly for awhile.
