Hun.
Seems like Monday rolls around awfully quick. We had a good time last
night at Pizza Hut. I brought home what was left to share with Bob for
his dinner. The U.S. Open golf tournament was being played from CA
which made it run until almost 9 last night. It ended in a tie with
Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate, young gun vs. old gun. They had to play
18 holes in a play off today. I like to pull for the underdog. Rocco
would have been the oldest winner of the U.S. Open at 45 years old.
After another 18 holes ended in yet another tie after Rocco came back
from being three down at one time. He lost on the first hole of sudden
death.
You may not have noticed I have not talked about dad and I playing
golf any time recently. We did go to the driving range back in April
after which I had planned to try to go out and play the following week
or so. With dad's knee I doubt he can do much more than chip and
putt or ride along. We had a series of nasty Sunday weather followed by
scorching heat, followed by my knee giving me trouble. I really,
really miss playing. Perhaps in the next couple of weeks depending on
how it goes at the doctor's on Thursday.
I had a haircut appointment after work then came home. No errands to run tonight. The hot muggy's have returned.

It's only Wednesday and it has already been a
heck of a week. I am busy as fox in a chicken house at work. Since of
late I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off
perhaps he has been successful.
Yesterday a cold front came in with much cooler temperatures. Lows in
the high 50's and highs in the low 80's. Very pleasant after the
scorching heat of late.
We've been watching Jericho and Eureka. Of the two, I like Jericho the best.

My doctor's appointment was for 8am. I was in
and out and at work by 8:45. Good news, bad news. He did give me
another shot and told me to call him when I was ready to surgery. I
told him I would call in the fall to set things up. At least this time
I can be prepared in terms of my paid leave. Last years I did not have
enough to cover the full days I had to be off even with the Christmas
holiday.
The started to feel much better as the day progressed. The shots
themselves do not bother me. By the time I left work this afternoon I
was walking down the hill to the parking deck much better.
Today I lunch I had time to finish reading the China Bayles. I think tonight I will started the last Craig/Tappley team.
I mowed the lawn when I got home. Boy, do I love my new mower. Lighter
in weight. The specs on my old mower was 97 lbs. without the bag. Can
you imagine I pushed that darn thing last week without the self propel.
I tried to find the weight on the new mower but cannot find it listed.
Even though it is also steel deck construction it must weight at least
half to a third of the Honda. The self propel is operated by a squeeze
handle. I can easily determine how fast I want to go based on how fast
I can walk. Another advantage to the light weight was making it easier
to maneuver. I'm not sure if it was the shot taking effect or the
lighter weight but I was able to walk much faster tonight. Also, the
deck sides are longer with the blade sitting higher up in the deck.
That made less grass and dirt being thrown out to the sides and back
getting all over me. A lot less dust. I wisely used a long twist tie to
connect the key, which has a hole in turn handle, to the mower in case
it was vibrated out. I have some really large tree roots above ground
in the bag. Sure enough, as I started over those the key jostle loose.
Overall, I am happy with my first experience. I used the key start. It
took a couple of cranks for it turn over but then started right up.
The weather is still very pleasant, about 80 degrees while I was
mowing. No breeze and hot mowing but not as unpleasant had it been in
the 90's.
We are watching the last episodes of Jericho. Too bad they did not renew the series.

We are still having pleasant weather with
tomorrow being the first day of summer. On the way home I made the
usual library and grocery store stops. After dinner I watered the
plants. We have a chance of thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow but they
could be hit or miss with any measurable rainfall.
I am up in the morning at 5:20. My friend Bonnie is meeting me here at
the house at 5:40. After we pick up Marcy we will drive over to
Greensboro to mom, dad and Frances for a day trip with Holiday Tours.
We will travel to Greenwood, SC, home of Park Seed Company. If you buy
flower or vegetable seeds there is good chance you purchased some of
Park Seed's packets. They open their Trail Gardens one day a year to
the public for touring their gardens and testing beds. From there we go
to the South Carolina Festival of Flowers, an arts, crafts, and antique car show.
We arrive back in Greensboro around 8:30 Saturday night.

It was a long day yesterday but we had a lot of fun. With stops it took
roughly 4 1/2 hours to get down to Greenwood. We ran into rain all the
way down. When we arrived at Park Seed it looked like it was going to
rain any minute. The cloud cover and breeze actually made it nice
walking around the grounds looking at their test beds of flowers and
vegetables. For folks like my dad who could not walk out to the
gardens, they had people driving golf carts. Plants and bulbs were on
sale at deep discount prices. Later in the afternoon the clouds
departed and the sun came out. From Park Seed we went over to a local
middle school for the arts and crafts show. Frances bought some tree roses
for $5 a piece. She gave me one to plant in my yard. Marcy bought one
as well as some plants she had been looking for that we also at a very
reasonable price.
We left Greenwood around 4:30, stopped in Gaffney for dinner, and
arrived in Greensboro at 10 getting home around 11. After spending some
time with the dogs and catching up on the day with Bob it was after
midnight by the time we got to bed.
Malcolm work me up at 7:30 but Bob took the dogs out letting me sleep
in until 9. I spent the morning getting the house picked up and the
weekly cleaning chores done. I took the dogs out back to play for a few
minutes. The temperatures are not bad, low 80's but the humidity is
horrible. It's one of those very sultry summer days, with yesterday
being the first day of summer, what can you expect?
I had to run out to Wal-Mart then I met Frances at Catherine's which is
in the same shopping center. We both shop for a lot of clothing there.
They had a big sale going on just today. I picked up some tops and
short sleeve blouses for work.
Mary and Paul are here doing something down in the lab. I have a bushel
of ironing to do, bills to pay, etc., while they are downstairs. I have
steaks and chicken thawing to grill for dinner.
