An updated picture with the new counter top, sink, fixtures, and range.
Bob wired the new range top up Saturday morning. When Bob removed
the old range he threw the breaker off to the range which also powers
the oven, thus no cooking until Bob got things hooked back up. We have
not tried taking out the old range hood and installing the new one yet.
Saturday I grilled out but last night I cooked our first meal.
Very nice indeed to cook with a well functioning range.
We still
have to go look at tile for the backsplash. I plan to stick with the
same colors on the cabinets and walls; cream/beige and a similar color
of blue.

I mentioned Sunday I started another China Bayles, Indigo Dying, by
Susan Albert. One of the things I love about this series is how much I
learn about herbs and their uses both currently and in history. In
Indigo I am learning about using plants to dye different types of
threads. Indigo is not only a plant, but also a small town in Texas
where China and her friend Ruby have traveled to for the weekend to
help China's college friend Alli with a dye workshop. The town is also
hosting a street festival where China and Ruby set up a booth to
sell their wares from their stores in nearby Pecan Springs. Alli's
uncle Casey Ford, a nasty character, has decided to sell his holdings
of the land of Indigo to a strip mining company. The end of Indigo has
the residents of the revived small town in an uproar. With all the town
residents wishing his dead China and her husband, ex-cop McQuaid have
plenty of suspects when just that very thing happens.
The doctor
called this afternoon with the results from my MRI on the left knee
last week. Yep, this one looks much like the one I had operated on last
year. Torn meniscus and lots of arthritis "for someone my age". Dad's
progressing well with his recovery. The therapist helped him walk
outside yesterday.

We've had maybe quarter of an inch of rain over the last 24 hours. Otherwise, cloudy and muggy.
I finished reading the China Bayles. Tonight I am starting another Tapply, Brady Coyne mystery.
Dad
went back to the doctor today who did the surgery. He was pleased with
dad's progress. Two more weeks of at home therapy and exercises.
Frances took him for his appointment. She said he did real well though
he is still a little wobbly on the cane.

I worked 8:30 to 1 today. The tile place
recommended to us is only open M-F 7:30 -4:30. Since I had to leave
today at 3 to pick up mom for her hair appointment it was easier to
mess up one half instead having to leave early one day next week. The
place is not very far from where we live.
Bob brought along
one of the big pieces they cut for us to us as counter protectors to
help match up the tile. As with any specialized business, the lady knew
her stuff. I told her basically what I wanted; and did not want.
In less than 30 minutes we had what I wanted picked out. She gave
us the names of two installers they use.
I dropped Bob back
off at home with enough time to swing by the library to drop off some
books and hunt down some for Bob to read. Once I finish this last
library book I want to read a couple of books from my TBR pile before I
go back to reserving books in the series I am reading.
After I
dropped mom off at the beauty shop I went back home to sit with dad.
While I was there the PT came. Dad is making great progress. He is now
walking with the cane in the house. He was still there when I left to
go pick up mom. We picked up take out for dinner. Frances had arrived
at the house by the time we got back.
The gray, cloudy weather
finally left here after lunch. By late afternoon the wind had picked up
but the sun was in and out behind the clouds.

I did the house cleaning chores then drove
out to Wal-Mart and the pet store. We only needed a few things from the
store which I could pick up at Wal-Mart .
After lunch I helped
Bob install the sealer strip on the underside of the range top then he
installed the clamps underneath to hold everything down and in place.
We then started taking down the 23 doors to the cabinets. Bob used the
electric drill/screwdriver to take off hinges and handles. I've started
putting stuff back in the lower cabinets now that all the work is
finished.
When we talked to the tiling lady yesterday she
recommended we not install the new range hood until the tiling is
completed. We will leave the old one up for now. We can take it down
right before they start on the work.
I need to get hole filler for the holes in both the cabinets and doors before I do the painting.
It
is a beautiful day. Cool and sunny but breezy. I had the dogs out
when I got back from the store. Malcolm, of course, has been helping
with the kitchen activities.

Malcolm let us sleep in until 7:50. While Bob
did his morning backup stuff and started the laundry I ironed a basket
full of work pants and shirts.
We then took off for Lowe's to
look at door hardware and pick up the hole filler for the cabinets and
doors. After lunch while I vacuumed and mowed the lawn he did the wood
filler on the cabinets and used the driveway crack filler to repair
some minor cracking problems.
It's another beautiful day to be outdoors much the same as yesterday; warm and breezy with clear blue skies.
I've paid the bills, balanced the check book and cleaned off my desk. Other than cooking dinner that's about it for today.
