Sometime early this morning the rain woke me
up. It was coming down pretty hard but we did not have a storm. Another
fall like day with cool temperatures, clouds, and lots of wind. Around
3:45 this afternoon we were under sever thunderstorm watch. Looking out
from the side of the building where I work you can see our side of
town. It was pitch black over here. We watched the storm move from
where we live, the north west side to downtown.
When I left
work at 4:45 I could see a lot of leaves and stick had been blown onto
the road. At the corner of University and Coliseum, a major
intersection the lights were out and the cops were directing traffic. I
had seen one tree down in a yard along the way and one side street
blocked off.
Once I got through that intersection, where I turn
right onto Coliseum to get to Reynolda Road, I did not see much in the
way of storm debris. A mile or so down Reynolda a tree was down
blocking the road. Fortunately it was right between a little side road
we could take as a detour and get back on Reynolda. From there on to
the gym I did not see any further damage.
I picked up Bob
after I finished at the gym to meet Mary for dinner at Zoe's. We did
not have any damage or leaves down in the yard but a neighbor's crepe
myrtle was damaged. We picked up two inches of rain. I talked to dad a
few minutes ago and they did not get a drop.

I saw more storm damage this morning on my way to work. Lots of trees down, etc. Cool again today but a little more humidity.
I am reading another Reginald Hill, Arms and the Women. Hill features Pascoe's wife Ellie more in this one.
More file shifting today. I am about finished with that project for now. Several others are waiting on the back burners.
We
are watching the first episode of Wire in the Blood. The first and
second episodes are based on novels by Val McDermid. Another later
episode is an adaptation of one of her novels. I've never read the
books but I think Bob has.

We are back to more normal July type weather,
warm and muggy. Mid 80's today though the humidity is still not all
that high. Between the rain and my quick fix watering last week the
grass is looking fairly healthy.
Gym tonight. We have been
watching Madmen which is much like watching reruns of my childhood. I
liked Wire in the Blood. A bit more psychological weird than some stuff
we watch but we enjoyed it enough to try some more episodes.

End of another long week. Duncan had several
good nights followed by another very bad one last night. I must have
been really tired because I slept through one 45 minute bad period
around 2 that kept Bob awake. He put Duncan in the bathroom to see if
that would calm him down. He woke me at 4:30. I will not describe the
scene before my eyes but needless to say I was mopping the floor and
cleaning him up getting back to bed after 5. This is the second time he
has worked himself into a frantic state like that when we have not
heard him trying to get up.
From work I made a library,
drugstore, and grocery stop to pick up milk and juice. Bob fixed stir
fried rice for dinner. We started watching another episode of Blue
Murder with dinner. After dinner I mowed the lawn. Temperatures are not
too bad, 84 with 45% humidity.
Whew. Now I am tired. Time to watch some more of the show and relax.

Happy birthday to my dad. For his birthday he
wanted to drive down to Sanford to eat at a German restaurant he had
heard about. Frances had called to see if we needed reservations.
The owner, waitress said she would save us table if they got busy. We
left around 11, got down there around 1:00.
Everything is made
from scratch. It was more of a Bavarian/German type menu with lots to
choose from. Food was excellent, much better than the place we went to
not far from here for dad's birthday. It was a nice day, lovely
weather, though we did hit a frog chocker not far outside of Sanford on
the way back home.

Other than getting the weekly house cleaning chores done this morning
it has been a fairly relaxing day. Too hot and muggy to be outside
though I had the dogs out several times and sat on the porch reading
for awhile. It isn't too bad in the shade especially when a breeze
comes up.
I finished reading the Dalziel and Pascoe this
afternoon. I have reserves from the library to choose from next. Golf
and more reading this afternoon.
