Bob announced on his page
today he will be taking a trip out to California the first of May. No,
I will not be going with him. First off, I do not fly. Second, it is my
turn to stay home with the dogs while he goes off and have some
fun. Every year, at least once and sometimes twice, Bob gets stuck
at home taking care of the dogs by himself for a week or longer when I
take trips with my folks. This being an equal opportunity marriage it
is now my turn.
I finished the Winspear. It is by far, the best one in the
Maisie series so far. I am now reading the next to most recent Anne
Perry, Long Spoon Lane. Pitt, now a member of Special Branch finds
himself investigating the killer of a future Lord involved with a gang
of anarchists. Perry brings in all the regular characters to help solve
this one including wife Charlotte, sister Emily, Lady Cumming-Gold.
Pitt and his boss Narraway are once again fighting the evil corruption
of the secret society The Inner Circle in order to stop police and
government corruption from his old police station.
It's a good thing I mowed the lawn yesterday. It was pouring when I
left for work this morning before turning into a steady drizzle for
most of the day and this evening. More of the same for the entire week.
At least the forecast is for the temperatures to get warmer as the week
progresses. April showers bring May flowers.

Cloudy skies, drizzle, and cold temperatures
gave way to sunny and warm late this afternoon. It turns out I would
have been able to mow but...alas, I believed the weather prophets. I am
having dinner with my friends Nancy and Betsy tomorrow night so I knew
regardless of the weather I would not be able to mow.
Busy as work. Several new projects in the works.
We've been watching another old British comedy they also run on Saturday nights on the local PBS station, Good Neighbors.
It was called the Good Life in Britain when it aired but the name was
changed to Good Neighbors when it first aired in the US. You can check
the web site if you are interested in the reason. The full regular cast
are all favorites of ours who went on to make other very good British
series. Both of the series were made before Bob and I were married. We
saw them when they first aired the in US in the mid to late 80's. It's
fun to watch the actors in their early roles.

Nice dinner last night. I left work early to run some errands while that were in the general vicinity of where we were meeting.
One of the problems with Bob going off and leaving me home to care for
the dogs is letting them out during the day. I know a lot working folks
leave their dogs all day and they are fine but ours have been used to
being let out a couple of times during the day. I have decided I will
take Thursday and Friday off to stay home with the guys and get some
projects completed. We had planned to be gone the end of April. That
would have been my first spring vacation, long weekend since back in
January. It is a long haul from January to Memorial Day weekend. Those
plans have been canceled so I shall take those two days and turn them
into a nice long weekend. I have already started making a list of
things I want to get done.
Dad had already planned to put off his knee surgery until we came back
but in the event they can do it during that week I will be off from
work anyway.
It is pouring buckets at the moment. I walked out at lunch time. It was
just drizzling then and cold and windy. By the time I got off from work
the temperature felt like it had dropped some more and it was raining a
little harder. By the time I got to the gym it was raining pretty
steady and has been since I got home.
We put the yellow rain slickers on the dogs to minimize their getting
soaked. They at least keep their backs dry though their head, tail, and
legs get wet.

Whew! The end of a very long week. It was
time for me to do my every-once-in-awhile shopping at Wal-Mart. We
needed an assortment of household items, dog snacks, etc. By working
through lunch I left at 4 and beat the worst of the afternoon rush hour
traffic to combine this shopping trip with the weekly grocery shopping.
We had a little over an inch of rain by the time we walked the dogs
last night at 9pm. We start round two tonight with more rain and
thunderstorms. Bob is proofing the last chapter of the chemistry book
so I cleaned up after dinner and walked the dogs. It had just started
to rain again while I had them out.
I finished the Anne Perry. We are waiting on her latest to come in at
the library. Tonight I will start another Philip Craig, A Vineyard
Killing.

We added a full 1 1/2 of rain to totals by
this morning. A lot of that fell last night during the hour and half of
thunderstorms that rumbled through. We waited until 9:30 before finally
just taking the dogs quickly out in the front yard.
More rain early this morning. This afternoon has been off and on
drizzle. More heavy stuff coming in again tonight. We've been taking
the dogs out between downpours rather than on a time schedule.
Other than a few odd jobs I am have not done anything real productive so far today. That may change this afternoon or not.

I gave Bob a haircut this morning before
doing the weekly cleaning chores. Once I finished those up, around 10 I
changed head over to my folks house. After a visit and lunch dad has a
few things he needed help with in the yard. Couldn't do much in the way
of planting after almost 3 inches of rain in the last few days.
Our beautiful North Carolina red clay was more like red muck. I dug up
one of his large primroses to split and replant plus put three new ones
in the ground he had purchased. Then I hauled his large planters down
from the steps going to the back yard for him to plant his geraniums
then of course had to haul the back in place. I pulled down a couple of
hanging pots for him to put some small plants in before we called it a
day.
I brought on of the split off primroses home to put in back under my
redbud tree. I have about a 24' x 24' natural area underneath where I
finally gave up trying to grow grass. I had the landscape timbers
outlining that area when I was stung so back a couple of years ago. I
pulled up the timbers last year. I am now working on getting things
planted in there.
I have bills to pay and web sites to check but that's about it for
today other than cooking dinner. No more rain in the forecast but we
still have cloudy to partly cloudy skies for the next few days. The sun
has tried to come out a couple of times this afternoon.
